About 🧐 😯

Phil Mazo is an award-winning comedic filmmaker and viral content creator known for his absurd, deadpan tone and twist-driven storytelling—once dubbed "the M. Night Shyamalan of comedy."

His current docu-comedy, Replay—a short film with the unique distinction of achieving nationwide theatrical distribution—tells the true story of a man seeking redemption over a humiliating TV appearance from his childhood. It screens before every feature film at Landmark (LA), Angelika (NY), and hundreds of other top theaters across the country from May 30 thru June 26, 2025 via Spotlight Cinema Networks' curated preshow.

“Concise and powerful storytelling mixed with humor and
inventive filmmaking… a hilarious film audiences will love.”

—Mary Dossinger, RiverRun International Film Festival

Replay’s
major festival screenings include the upcoming Palm Springs International ShortFest—where it will screen on June 28, 2025—as well as RiverRun, Montclair, Bushwick, and more.

Mazo created his previous short, I'm Phil (2020), entirely on his own during the height of COVID isolation—writing, directing, shooting, editing, and playing two roles opposite himself in this darkly comic, modern-day Narcissus story of a man who falls in love with his own reflection. The film earned him a 2024 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and won Best Comedy Short at Coney Island Film Festival.

Mazo's viral comedy videos have amassed 100 million views from audiences across the globe, often incorporating silent film techniques that transcend language. His biggest hit so far, His heart goes out to you (35M+ views), was hailed by fans as “absolute cinema”—while his latest hit, Couldn’t help myself (2M+ views), has fans proclaiming “there is a special place in heaven for whoever made this.”

In the meantime, until Phil arrives there… he is currently producing a true-crime feature with comedic undertones—starring himself—in collaboration with Darkred Studios and CBL Creative.
